The Planning & Regional Services Division has kicked off this year’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Events. The first event took place at the City of Copperas Cove transfer station (2605 South FM 116) on Saturday, September 29th. The second event is scheduled for October 27th at the City of Temple’s Solid Waste Services Center (3210 East Ave. H). The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m.
HHW Events are open to residents of Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills, and San Saba counties. Participants must show proof of residency and will be asked to complete a brief survey. Participants will not be asked to provide any personal information.
The upcoming event in Temple will accept electronics, paints, automobile batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, household cleaners, household chemicals, pesticides, flammables, corrosives, and other hazardous household materials. Tires with a rim dimension of up to 17 inches will also be accepted, but only eight tires per household will be accepted free of charge. A $1.00 surcharge will be placed on each tire over the limit.
Prohibited items included infectious and medical wastes, biological and radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and explosives.
Individuals seeking more information about the event or with questions regarding allowable items should call Jennifer Lawyer at (254) 770-2364.
The Planning & Regional Services Division hopes to see you there! Be on the lookout for more HHW Events in 2008!
